Tom goes to a board where people post odd jobs and finds a posting from a girl named Cari who is trying to raise money by playing her flute. So Tom goes over to her place to hire her and she's completely surprised. He explains to her that he needs her to play the flute while he swims across Lake Washington. They put Cari in their van and Tom wants her to play something, but she keeps laughing. So Tom offers her 5 bucks to shut her up. They stop by "Discount Divers Supply" to buy some diving gear for Tom. Cari continues playing while Tom tries on a suit, but she's still laughing. Then Tom goes to a radio station and announces his swim across Lake Washington claiming that he was going to "kick the lake's ass". He gets all worked up about it because his mom said he couldn't do it.
